A CENTURY OF COMMITMENT TO NOTRE DAME (video)
As part of the Monogram Club’s ongoing 100th anniversary celebration, some of the Club’s many connections to each Notre Dame program have been highlighted. This latest installment of the “Monogram Club Turns 100” series looks at the many strong ties between the Monogram Club and the Fighting Irish softball program.
Softball’s Monogram Moments
Barbara Mooney (‘89) was on Notre Dame’s first varsity softball team in 1989. Mooney later became the first softball alum to serve on the Monogram Club Board of Directors. She was on the board from 2005-08.
Two softball Monogram winners currently serve on the Monogram Club Board of Directors. Former All-American Jen (Sharron) Richardson (‘01) was a Club director from 2012-15 and now is an advisor, while Linda Kohan (‘09) joined the board last fall.

Erin Marrone (’11, softball) was a 2011 recipient of the Monogram Club postgraduate scholarship. The Club annually awards a $5,000 stipend to a graduating male and female student-athlete.
Softball Monogram winners Kris (McCleary) Ganeff (‘99) (left) and Lizzy (Lemire) Ristano (‘01) (right) currently serve as associate coaches on the Fighting Irish softball staff.
Meghan Murray (‘97) earned the Monogram Club Team MVP Award in 1996 and 1997. The Club sponsors the MVP award for every Fighting Irish team.
Notre Dame head coach Deanna Gumpf received an honorary Monogram in 2011.

Softball Monogram winner Kasey O’Connor (‘12) is in her second season as the team’s director of operations.
Through the Monogram Club’s team-hosting program, the softball team was able to take a bike tour of Paris during their European trip last fall. The team-hosting program provides unique opportunities for Irish teams while on the road.
