The University of Notre Dame will be represented, once again, on the world’s biggest soccer stage as Shannon Boxx (’99) and Melissa Tancredi (‘04) will compete for the United States and Canada, respectively, at the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Canada will face China on Saturday (June 6) in the tournament’s first match, while the U.S. opens play Monday (June 8) versus Australia. See full group schedules below.

Boxx is making her fourth World Cup appearance, while this is the third time Tancredi will suit up for Canada at the event. Boxx and the U.S. were runners-up at the 2011 World Cup after posting third-place finishes in 2007 and 2003.

If donning the kit of your country wasn’t already special enough, Tancredi will do so in Canada, which hosts the month-long tournament (June 6-July 5).

Fans also will see a lot of fellow Monogram winner, and current Monogram Club Board member, Kate Sobrero Markgraf (’98) during the World Cup as she will serve as an analyst for ESPN. While Fox owns the rights to broadcast all of the World Cup matches, Markgraf will appear on SportsCenter, ESPN FC, espnW and other platforms throughout the month. Markgraf will bring tremendous insight as she competed in three World Cups for Team USA. She was part of the historic 1999 title-winning squad and she also played in the 2003 and 2007 events.

Former Fighting Irish All-American and Academic All-American Monica González (’01) will be covering the action in studio for Fox Sports. González was a founding member of the Mexican Women’s National team in 1998 and helped lead the squad during the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup. She captained the team from 2003 – 2007, including the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece – the nation’s first appearance in Olympic soccer competition.
