On Sunday, the Notre Dame women’s basketball team defeated #4 seed and ACC foe Maryland to earn its third national title game appearance in the past four years. Led by Kayla McBride’s 28 points, the Fighting Irish cruised to an 87-61 victory over the Terps.
Next up, Notre Dame (37-0) will meet #1 Connecticut (39-0) in a matchup of epic proportions. Longtime BIG EAST rivals, the two squads did not meet during the 2013-14 season, as the Irish moved to the Atlantic Coast Conference, while the Huskies transitioned to the American Athletic Conference.
On Tuesday, the teams will meet for the fourth consecutive year in the Final Four. The Irish won the national semifinal meetings in 2011 and 2012, while the Huskies were victorious last year. The two schools have never faced off in the title game, and they have certainly never had a showdown like the one they will have in Nashville less than 48 hours from now.
