A group of Notre Dame men’s soccer alumni participated in Northwestern University’s annual Alumni Cup Soccer Championship this past Saturday at Lakeside Field in Evanston, Ill. The Irish finished 1-1-1, but unfortunately did not advance to the semifinals, as a result of goal differential.
Irish assistant coach Greg Dalby (’07) organized the squad, which included Bob Novak (’12), Danny O’Leary (’12), Chris Sutton (’11), Andrew Luttrell (’10), Tamba Samba (’08), Sean McGrath (’11), Nate Norman (’07), Craig Krzyskowski (’10) and Andrew Quinn (’10). Gerick Short (’99) and his children also came out to the field to cheer on the Irish alums.
“Despite the results, we all had a great time and a lot of fun taking the field together,” Dalby said in an e-mail to Irish soccer alums. “It was good to see everyone who showed up and exciting to rehash old college rivalries in some of the teams we played.”
Greg also joked that head coach Bobby Clark was quick to blame the three collegiate coaches – himself, Quinn (Harvard) and Norman (Western Michigan) – for the subpar performance.
Mark your calendar for next year’s tournament, which is already set for Saturday, June 7, 2014. If you are a men’s soccer alum interested in playing, contact Greg at email@example.com.
