I’m starting to wonder if this is the busiest week of the year for athletic trainer Rob Hunt. Unfortunately, the first practice of the 2013 Notre Dame Football Fantasy Camp saw a couple of players sidelined with injuries. With participants ranging in age from 27 to 73, perhaps this should come as no surprise. With that said, I can say with 100% certainty that “stretch” was the most overheard word before session #2 on Wednesday afternoon.
In addition to the Monogram winners who were on campus for the opening practice, Omar Jenkins (’04, ’11) and Marc Edwards (’97) arrived at Notre Dame during the afternoon, while Tony Fisher (’02), Rich Thomann (’72) and Oliver Gibson (’94) got into town on Wednesday evening.
Continuing in our Then vs. Now series, Omar (a former Irish wide receiver), went up against senior cornerback Bennett Jackson prior to the start of practice. As much as Fantasy Camp is about the most passionate Notre Dame football fans living out a dream, it is also a great opportunity for current student-athletes to meet and interact with some of the guys who wore the gold helmet – years, or even decades – before them.
